KATHMANDU, June 16: Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni arrived in Kathmandu on a two-day official visit on Saturday morning.
Upon his arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Dhoni said “Being a cricketer, it would be great if I could promote cricket here.” He touched down at the TIA on an Air India flight at around 9:15 am.
Addressing the media at TIA, Dhoni stated that the game of cricket has been great in the South Asia and that Nepal, too, should rise as a good cricketing nation in the region.
His visit to Nepal has been facilitated by the Indian embassy in Kathmandu.The Indian skipper is scheduled to visit the TU cricket ground where he will meet Nepali cricketers. He will also be attending an interaction program at Hotel Yak & Yeti, Durbarmarg later this evening.
Dhoni will offer prayers at Pashupatinath Temple before leaving for his country on Sunday. Dhoni is only the third Indian captain after Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar to visit Nepal.
